New WW1 medals online interactive for schools
My Learning has launched a WW1 Medals Interactive for the First World War Centenary. Suitable for Key Stages 2-4, the free online interactive allows students to learn about the features of military medals and the meaning behind them. They can even design their own medals, view them in 3-D, and download PDF copies.
The meaning of receiving a medal is explored in the stories of six WW1 medal recipients – including a nurse who received the Red Cross Medal – which are presented in an accessible format displaying original artefacts.
Other activities include writing a letter to the pre- and post-war British prime ministers and following key wartime events across a map of Europe. Linked educational resources are also available on the main My Learning site at: www.mylearning.org/ww1-medal-stories
The interactive received great feedback from users when it was recently launched at this year’s Yorkshire Show.
WW1 Medals postcards (including a medal decoration task) and stickers are available on request for teachers and heritage organisations.
