Reaching Out Arms – The Story of WW1 on Cannock Chase
The Cannock Chase AONB Partnership has been awarded nearly £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver a project which focuses on interpreting Cannock Chase’s rich First World War heritage. To mark 100 years since the First World War, the project will see local people come together to preserve the memories and heritage of the people who built, serviced and stayed on the Brocton and Rugeley military camps during this time.
A team of volunteers will be recruited and trained to lead walks around the Chase, explaining the history and location of the camps to visitors. There will also be opportunities to volunteer in the Great War Hut, an original training hut used on the camp. A free information leaflet will also be launched that features information about the camps, how they were used and how visitors can access them, including a map and suggested walking routes.
