Tribute to War Horses
A tribute is being planned to establish and maintain a lasting memorial which acknowledges the horse’s unfaltering service to mankind throughout times of conflict, work and in sport, rehabilitation and education. This accolade to the horse is the only memorial the National Memorial Arboretum has granted to an animal in its own right.
“A site has been chosen at the UK’s year round centre for Remembrance; a spiritually uplifting place which honours the fallen, recognises service and sacrifice and fosters pride in our country.”
Project manager, Tracy Francis, said “The Great War provides one particular poignant example of the courage, strength and versatility of the horse in serving humans in conflict, and the wonderful bond that can be developed between a horse and its rider.”
