MONDAY 31ST JULY 1916: OUR READER VIEWS.
Air raid warning
Sir- As you know we had a visit from Zeppelins in this country on Friday and we in Burton received no warning whereas both Derby and Swadlincote blew their sirens. My point is this, if the population of Derby and Swadlincote can be warned why can’t we? I know our officials will say the War Office has been approached and has declined to notify the approach of hostile aircrafts but are the ratepayers of Burton to be trapped through not having warning. I have yet to meet one person who does not want a warning. Yours etc. A BURTONIAN
